Richard Wagner en Yidis / in Yiddish / auf jiddisch

Quería celebrar, ya que esta es la entrada número 250 de mi blog, con algo muy especial.

Como ya se ha dicho anteriormente, Richard Wagner tuvo una presencia importante en la vida cultural judía estadounidense de principios del siglo XX. De hecho, en el más improbable escenario, una adaptación teatral de su Parsifal se escenificó en 1904 en Nueva York. Esta efervescente actividad cultural, social, intelectual, sumada a las que se vivían en nuestra Europa, en el Imperio Austrohúngaro, Polonia y Ucrania, transcurría en lengua Yidis, la cual vivió un período de esplendor. En 1907, el periodista William Edlin (nacido en Ucrania y nacionalizado estadounidense), quien cubría la actividad teatral como ensayista y crítico en los diarios Forverts y Der Tog a principios del siglo XX, publicó un libro llamado "Velt-Berihmte Operas", traducido como "Óperas mundialmente conocidas", al español. Este libro recogía los argumentos de 25 famosas óperas, italianas, francesas y alemanas, con una introducción e incluso citas de textos del libreto, traducidos al idioma yidis. En el apartado dedicado repertorio alemán se incluyen hasta cuatro óperas de Richard Wagner: Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Tristán y Parsifal. 

En esta entrada de blog, se recogerán los fragmentos citados de sus obras, traducidos al español desde el Yidis. Tengo que aclarar que no hablo yidis, ni tengo la capacidad de hacer una traducción literaria, así que las transcripciones del yidis proceden de la aplicación Lexilogos, que las transcribe en alfabeto latino y sus traducciones al español y al inglés proceden de otras ya hechas en Kareol y Murashev, que poseen los derechos de traducción y a las que solamente cito. De hecho, no puedo garantizar una traducción exacta y he tenido que omitir textos que aunque podía identificar el acto y el personaje, no me parecía una correspondencia coherente con el libreto.

Siento mucho la pésima presentación, pero soy bastante torpe con Word y Office. Mi intención es solo mostrar el existente vínculo, a priori improbable, entre Wagner y la lengua yidis, algo que ocurrió para mayor enriquecimiento de la recepción de la obra wagneriana. Esta entrada está abierta a modificaciones, así que si un hablante de yidis quiere añadir  o corregir algo, es bienvenido.

I would like to celebrate, as this is the 250th post in my blog, with something very special.

As mentioned before, Richard Wagner had an important presence in the American Jewish cultural life in early 1900s. In fact, in the most unlikely scenario, a theatrical adaptation of his Parsifal was staged in 1904 in New York. This flourihsing cultural, social, intellectual activity, alongside the one carried in the Eastern Europe, happened in Yiddish language. In 1907, William Edlin (Ukrainian-born, later naturalised American), a journalist covering theatrical activity for the Forverts and Der Tog newspapers, published a book called ·Velt-Berihmte Operas", translated as "Universally famous Operas" in English. This book included the plots of 25 famous Italian, French and German operas, with an introduction and even translated quotes from the librettos. In the German opera section, four Wagner operas were included: Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Tristan and Parsifal.

In this blog post most of the quoted excerpts are collected, translated to English from Yiddish. I have to say that I DON'T SPEAK Yiddish, I don't have the competence to make a literary translation, so all Yiddish transcriptions and the German, English and Spanish texts come from websites such as Murashev (for English) and Kareol (for German and Spanish). All the translation copyright comes to them, as I am only quoting. The Yiddish transcriptions come from Lexilogos and then from Google Translate. In fact, in some cases I cannot guarantee a proper translation and I had to omit some texts in which, despite I could identify the act and character, I couldn't find a coherent correspondence with the libretto.

I do apologise for the bad presentation, but I am very, very clumsy Word Office. My intention is to show this cultural link between Wagner's work and Yiddish, which could be unlikely, but it did happen, much to the enrichment of Wagner's reception. This is opened to future corrections, so if any Yiddish speaker has (I presume a lot) something to add or correct, it will be very welcome.
